Ranking the 20 best 80s Horror Sequels

BM-Midline-1.jpg

In the 80s, sequels played a vital role in the development of some of the most iconic horror franchises in history. Indeed, prior to the 80s, sequels were somewhat uncommon, at least by today’s standards. Similarly, no other genre utilized the sequel to great effect than the horror genre. With series like Friday the 13th releasing SEVEN films in the decade, going to see the latest sequel for a horror franchise became somewhat of an annual event. Unfortunately, not all of these entries were masterpieces. In fact, with infamously bad additions like “C.H.U.D. II: Bud the Chud,” fans were often left wondering just exactly why (or how) some sequels ever saw the light of day. Other films, however, managed to outshine their predecessors. In celebration of some of these great sequels, I have gone ahead and cultivated a ranking of what I deem to be the 20 best (or at least, my 20 favorite) sequels of the decade.

*I have opted to only include ONE sequel per series (e.g., one of the Friday the 13th films). Please refrain from commenting in an angry outburst that more FT13th or NOES films were not included.*
