8 Horror Movie Based Video Games You Probably Didn't Know Existed

Since the inception of video games, there's been an omnipresent fascination with transferring images from the big screen onto playable, interactive formats on the small screen. Unfortunately, while these attempts have often been ambitious in nature, it's rare that they ever work out well in practice. Needless to say, conceptually, being able to see and  control some of our favorite cinematic characters remains a novel idea (and one which only seems to be gaining in popularity). Referring specifically to horror, many will recall some of the earlier and more popular adaptations including Friday the 13th or Jaws. Aside from these, however, there were a handful of other lesser known titles which often go unrecognized. So, to finally give these some recognition, I've compiled a list of 8 horror movie based video games that you probably didn't know existed.

8. Attack of the Killer Tomatoes (ZX Spectrum)

7. The Evil Dead (Commodore 64)

A little video showing the gameplay of The Evil Dead for the Commodore 64. -MRL

6. Fright Night (Amiga)

Zeus presents Fright Night (un-emulated) for the Amiga A500, a spooky classic from the golden era of amiga gaming which must not be forgotten alongside the software house and all programmers that were involved in making this game.

5. Halloween (Atari 2600)

Halloween for the Atari 2600 Played on Stella emulator for Atari 2600 ROMS. Everyone has probably seen a Halloween film in their life time. The series made famous in 1978 by John Carpenter and Debra Hill is still going strong today, 27 years later.

4. The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (Atari 2600)

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre for the Atari 2600 is better known for the fact it was largely ignored by most retailers for it's unprecedented levels of in-game violence. You take on the role of Leatherface and must put a stop to tourists trespassing on your property by using, yes you guessed it a chainsaw.

3. Hellraiser (NES - Unreleased/Canceled)

2. Bloodwings: Pumpkinhead's Revenge (PC)

Bloodwings: Pumpkinhead's Revenge Walkthrough (By me!): http://www.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/game/564489.html --------------------------------------------------- This is only the beginning! How will mmntw26 survive the horrors of Pumpkinhead? Would he be better off...dead? --------------------------------------------------- Well, it's been a while since an update, so I was getting annoyed with the lack of content. Although some of it wasn't my fault.

1. Nightbreed (Amiga)

First three levels of the Amiga game based on the movie of the same title and the book Cabal. This is an okay game although it's difficult finding your way around.
